Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Liminal Senses Ltd collects when you use liminalsenses.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over it under UK data protection law.
Who we are
Liminal Senses Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We are a research-led design studio working in digital health and interactive media.
Company: Liminal Senses Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 11900618
Registered office: 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX
Email about this policy or your information: hello@liminalsenses.com
"We", "us" and "our" below mean Liminal Senses Ltd. "You" means anyone who visits liminalsenses.com or contacts us through it.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the liminalsenses.com website and any email or enquiry that reaches us through it.
Three things sit outside it:
Taking part in our research. If you take part in a study we run or support, your information is handled under that study's own participant information sheet and ethics approval, not under this policy. Those documents tell you who the controller is, what is collected and how to withdraw.
Our apps. Count Sheep ASMR Relax and BoxHead have their own privacy notices, available on their App Store and Google Play listings. Nothing you do in an app is covered here.
Other websites we link to. We are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Please do not send us health information. Nothing on this site asks for details of your health, diagnosis, treatment or symptoms, and we have no need for them. Under UK data protection law this is special category data and carries extra protection. If you send it anyway, we will only keep it as long as needed to reply to you, and we will not use it for anything else. If you want support with your mental health, speak to your general practitioner (GP) or, in an emergency, call 999 or NHS 111.
Information we collect
What you give us. When you fill in the contact form, book a call or email us, we receive your name, your email address, the organisation you work for if you tell us, and whatever you write in your message. If you go on to work with us, we also hold the contact and project details needed to run the engagement and to invoice for it.
What is collected automatically. Like most websites, ours records technical information each time a page is served: your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the type of browser and device you are using, the pages you visit, how long you stay, and the site you arrived from. This comes from our website platform and from cookies, which the next section explains.
We do not buy personal information from anyone, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
How we use your information
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for each use. Ours are set out below.

Legitimate interests — preventing abuse and diagnosing faults
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether our interest is outweighed by your rights, and concluded it is not. You can object to any of those uses — see Your rights below.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not sell it.
Cookies and analytics
A cookie is a small file a website stores on your device. Ours fall into two groups.
Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working — they remember your cookie choice, keep forms secure and help balance traffic. These are set by our website platform and do not need your consent, because the site cannot function without them.
Analytics cookies tell us which pages people read and how they arrived. These are set only if you accept them. If you decline, we still see aggregate server information, but nothing that tracks you between visits.
You can change your mind at any time through the cookie banner, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones may stop parts of the site working.
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not run retargeting.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We do use a small number of service providers, who process information on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes.
Who
What they handle
Squarespace
Hosting the website, delivering pages, receiving contact form submissions, site analytics
[EMAIL PROVIDER]
Our email, including correspondence with you
[SCHEDULING TOOL]
Bookings made through the "book a call" page
[ACCOUNTANT]
Invoicing and statutory accounting records
We may also disclose information where the law requires it — for example to a court, a regulator, or a public authority acting within its powers. If our business or its assets were ever transferred to another organisation, information would pass with it, and we would tell you first.
Where your information is held, and for how long
Where it is held. Some of our providers store or access information outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards UK law allows — either an adequacy decision covering the destination, or the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. You can ask us which applies to a particular provider.
How long we keep it.
Information
Kept for
Enquiries that do not lead to work
24 months from our last exchange
Client and project records
6 years from the end of the engagement
Invoices and accounting records
6 years from the end of the relevant financial year, as tax and company law require
Mailing list details
Until you unsubscribe
Analytics data
As set by the analytics provider, normally no more than 26 months
We review what we hold periodically and delete what we no longer need.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to:
be told what we hold about you and why — which is what this policy is for
get a copy of your information
have it corrected if it is wrong or incomplete
have it deleted, where we have no continuing reason to keep it
restrict how we use it while a question about it is resolved
receive it in a portable form, or have it sent to another organisation, where we hold it by consent or under a contract
object to uses we base on legitimate interests, including any direct marketing
withdraw consent at any time, where consent is what we rely on. This does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, email [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We will reply within one month. There is no charge, though we may ask you to confirm who you are before we release information, and we may extend the deadline by two months for a complex request — we will tell you if that happens.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at any time:
Helpline 0303 123 1113
Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF
Children
This website is aimed at organisations and professionals, not at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 through it. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Some of our research and product work concerns young people. Where that is the case, participation is governed by the study's own ethics approval and consent arrangements, which include separate provisions for children and for parental consent.
Changes to this policy, and how to contact us
We update this policy when what we do with information changes, or when the law does. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you directly where we can.
